Cookie policy

 1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Backscreen, a brand of SIA Tet (“Tet”, “we”, “us”, “our”), uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our websites, self‑service portals and embeddable players (together, the “Services”).

This Cookie Policy is part of  Backscreen Privacy policy.

By visiting our websites, using our self‑service portals or using our embeddable players, you can choose which non‑essential cookies to allow. Essential cookies, which are necessary for the operation of our Services, are used based on our legitimate interests and do not require your consent.

If you do not agree with the use of cookies as described here, you can change your cookie preferences at any time (see section 8 below) or adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies.

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device (computer, mobile phone, tablet, etc.) via your web browser when you visit the website. Cookies allow the website to:

  • recognise your browser or device;
  • remember your preferences or settings;
  • store certain information about your use of the website.

With the help of cookies, a website can remember your individual settings, recognise you on your next visit, and respond appropriately to improve your user experience. You can disable or restrict the use of cookies in your browser settings; however, without certain cookies, some features of the Services may not work properly or may not be available at all.

3. Types of Cookies We Use

Depending on their function and purpose, Backscreen (Tet) uses the following categories of cookies:

3.1. Necessary Cookies

These cookies are necessary for you to browse and use the website, portals and players, and for us to provide the Services you request.

We use essential cookies to, for example:

  • enable basic website and portal functions;
  • provide secure login and account access;
  • maintain your session and keep you logged in;
  • store your cookie preferences and consent;
  • ensure stable video playback and core player functions.

These cookies identify your device but do not reveal your identity and are not used to collect or compile information for marketing purposes. Without these cookies, the website and portal cannot function properly (for example, you would not be able to log in, submit service orders or use the player).

The legal basis for using essential cookies is Tet’s legitimate interest in ensuring the secure and uninterrupted operation of its websites and Services.

3.2. Functional Cookies

Functional cookies allow the website and portals to remember the choices you make and the settings you select to make your experience more convenient.

We use functional cookies to, for example:

  • remember your language preferences and localisation settings;
  • remember interface choices (e.g., filters, layout, last viewed content);
  • support certain enhanced features of the portals and players.

If you disable functional cookies, the website and portals may still work, but some convenient or personalised features may not be available.

Where required by law, functional cookies are used on the basis of your consent.

3.3. Analytics  Cookies

Analytics cookies collect information on how visitors use our websites, portals and players, so that we can improve their structure, content and performance.

We use analytics cookies to, for example:

  • understand how often and how long visitors use our Services;
  • identify which pages, content or features are used most often;
  • diagnose errors and optimise technical performance.

Analytics cookies identify your device or browser, but do not directly disclose your identity. In some cases, analytics cookies may be managed by service providers (data processors) on our behalf and only for the purposes we specify.

Analytics cookies are used only on the basis of your consent.

3.4. Advertising Cookies

Marketing cookies are used to collect information about the websites you visit and to show you advertising and offers that are more relevant to your interests, whether from Tet, Backscreen or our partners.

We use (or may allow partners to use) marketing cookies to:

  • show you interest‑based offers and content;
  • limit how often you see a specific advertisement;
  • measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns.

These cookies are usually placed by third parties (for example, advertising networks) with our permission and only for defined purposes.

Marketing cookies are used only on the basis of your consent.

4. Where and How We Use Cookies

4.1. Backscreen Websites and Portals

When you visit Backscreen websites and portals (for example: www.backscreen.com and related subdomains), we and our service providers may set cookies in your browser. These include:

  • essential cookies to enable core website and portal functions;
  • functional cookies to remember your preferences;
  • analytics cookies (e.g., via tools such as Google Analytics, where implemented);
  • advertising cookies (if and where used).

Cookies help keep your session active, retain your settings, and adapt the Services to your usage patterns.

4.2. Backscreen Players and Embedded Code

When:

  • you watch a video via the preview player in the Backscreen portal; or
  • your viewers watch a video using Backscreen’s player code embedded on your website or application,

the Backscreen player uses cookies that are essential for user experience, for example to:

  • provide stable streaming and playback;
  • remember playback settings (such as volume or quality);
  • protect against misuse or abuse of the service.

In the Backscreen Admin settings, you or another authorised user of your account can configure:

  • Google Analytics or Gemius tracking IDs; and/or
  • advertising services, such as Google Ad Manager or similar tools.

When these integrations are enabled, the corresponding third‑party scripts may be loaded via the Backscreen player or website and may set their own cookies in the viewer’s browser. In such cases, Backscreen is not the controller of the data processing carried out by these third parties. Those third parties are responsible for their own processing and cookie usage, and their terms and privacy policies apply.

We recommend that you, as a Backscreen customer, ensure that your own website’s privacy and cookie information covers the use of such third‑party services when they are enabled in Backscreen.

5. Cookie Duration and Storage

Cookies can be stored on your device for different periods:

  • Session cookies: stored only while your browser is open and deleted automatically when you close it.
  • Persistent cookies: stored for a defined period or until you delete them in your browser settings. The expiry period depends on the specific cookie and its purpose.

A detailed list of cookies used on Backscreen websites and portals (including their names, providers, purposes and expiry periods) is available in the “Cookie settings” / “Cookie preferences” section of each relevant site.

6. Use of Google Analytics and Similar Tools

Backscreen (Tet) may use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) or similar analytics tools provided by service providers such as Google Inc. (a US‑based company). These tools allow us to obtain aggregated statistics, including information about:

  • your device and browser type;
  • approximate geo‑location;
  • visit time and duration;
  • technical and interaction data (e.g., pages visited, events).

On Backscreen websites, Google Consent Mode is implemented:

  • All consents are initially set to “allow” until you choose otherwise;
  • If you consent to analytics cookies, GA4 analyses and provides insights into your activities to help us improve your experience;
  • If you do not consent to analytics cookies, Google Consent Mode ensures that personal data in analytics cookies is not stored, and only your consent status is preserved.

For more information about Google Analytics terms, see:
http://www.google.com/analytics/terms/us.html

7. Transfer of Cookie Information to Third Countries

Cookie‑related information is generally not transferred for processing outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). In certain cases, information may be processed in the United States by service providers registered there (for example, Google), in which case appropriate safeguards are implemented in accordance with applicable data protection laws (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).

Backscreen and Tet websites may contain links to third‑party websites, which have their own terms of use and privacy/cookie policies. We are not responsible for the content or cookie practices of such third‑party websites.

8. Cookie Consent and Management

When you visit Backscreen websites and portals, all consents are initially set to “allow” until you choose otherwise;. You can:

  • Reject non-essential cookies by selecting “Reject non-essential”; or
  • choose specific categories of cookies to allow by selecting “Customize your cookie preferences”

You cannot opt out of Necessary cookies through the banner, because some Services may not function without them. The legal basis for using essential cookies is Backscreen’s legitimate interests in ensuring the secure and uninterrupted operation of the websites and Services.

For all other categories of cookies (analytics, advertising), the legal basis is your consent, which you provide by ticking the relevant options in the banner or settings. Your consent confirms that you have read and understood the information about cookies, their purposes and legal bases.

You can withdraw or change your consent at any time using the same “Cookie settings” panel where you initially made your choice, or by deleting cookies via your browser settings. Any changes to your consent apply to all sections of the relevant website where that cookie type is used.

9. Browser Settings and Additional Controls

In addition to using our cookie banner and settings, you can control cookies through your browser:

  • Most browsers allow you to see which cookies are stored, delete cookies, and block cookies from specific websites or all websites.
  • Instructions for managing cookies are typically available in your browser’s help menu (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.).

Please note that if you block cookies completely, you may not be able to use all features of the Backscreen websites and portals.
